What’s more intimidating than death stare Luigi? How about competing against him on live television?
Nintendo announced a one-off television show called Clash of Karts: Mario Kart 8 on Disney XD, where 8 of the best young players will compete in a tournament in front of a live audience. Hopefully none of the competitors are friends, because this is the sort of game where friendships come to crash and burn in blue shells and banana peels. Clash of Karts will feature eight particular skilled gamers and pair them up with YouTubers including gaming personalities like Sethbling, Strawburry 17, Andre, and AtomicMari. The broadcast goes live on December 5 starting at 8 p.m. ET and runs a full hour.
Though live competitions on American television are out of the norm for Nintendo outside of E3, perhaps the company is trying to build a larger young target audience for even bigger upcoming projects like, say, an amusement park section at Universal Studios.
