Lately, we’ve been getting clues and hints about what’s coming soon for Nintendo such as the mysterious NX and virtual reality, new game titles and re-releases (Classic Pokemon, anyone?), rumors that Mother 3 coming to North American Wii Virtual Console stores, and it’s development of mobile games that feature it’s classic characters. Why all the gab? Well, turns out Nintendo is depending on your word of mouth more than it would like to.
According to Bloomberg and the NYSE, the videogame giant Nintendo Co. posted a sharp drop in quarterly net profit this Tuesday. How sharp? 36%. Ouch. Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima is trying his hardest to reassure investors that the Mobile Apps and other developments (possibly including the NX and the next Zelda title) are worth the wait. As the wait for Miitomo‘s March debut continues, rumors swirl on other apps and games the company is developing to follow. As Miitomo will be a free-to-play messaging application, Kimishima opened up on more possibilities for mobile gaming.
“Our second game will not be a communication app. We are going to pick some intellectual property that is very well known to everyone,” Kimishima responded with limited detail. “There are plans for new businesses in the works.”
There are no indicators as to what franchise(s) Nintendo will use for mobile games, but whatever they choose, fingers crossed that it will sell big. Otherwise, the company could face pushing plans for development of the NX and high definition games back even further into the future.
