Nintendo NX Set to Launch Fall of 2016

Nintendo will aim to make the formal announcement and presentation of Nintendo NX in June.

Breaking news out of Japan indicates that the upcoming next-gen console, Nintendo NX,  will be released in the fall of 2016. A formal reveal is aimed sometime in June. E3 2016 takes place in June, so many speculate that will be where Nintendo will present the new system.

Nomura Securities, a financial group from Tokyo that has broke this news, revealed that the console’s “concept” is expected to be revealed during the spring, sometime between March through May. An official launch is set to be either in October or November 2016.

Nomura Securities believes the console will “cannibalize” existing sales of both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U consoles.

2016

Of course this news returns the question of what platform will The Legend of Zelda appear on? A few months ago it was confirmed to be a Wii U title so this leads down the path of two different ideas:

  • It’s also confirmed as a NX title, only not formally
  • The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U will be a summer release instead of fall

Logically, it makes sense to reprise the situation of Twilight Princess – put the game on both systems. A Zelda title at system launch can only help boost sales for the hardware.

While the Nintendo NX is still a pretty closely guarded secret, it’s now just a matter of months before we see a fully idealized concept from Nintendo. With the aim for Fall 2016 for release, Nintendo is looking to capitalize on the holiday gaming market for sure.

Do you think Nintendo is moving prematurely for this new system to be out by the end of the year? What do you think this means for The Legend of Zelda? Tell us in the comments below!
